HelloTech Tech-Support Service Launches Today
From app-controlled locks and security systems to thermostats and video doorbells to smart speakers/digital assistants and much more, the number of connected devices in use worldwide is expected to increase 30 percent this year over 2015, according to Gartner, which estimates 6.4 billion Internet-enabled things will be in use by the end of the year, climbing to nearly 21 billion by 2020.
The new company, called HelloTech, offers a range of on-demand, in-home tech support services through a “fully-vetted team of techs” who are required to undergo background checks and complete a variety of tests and assessments.
A range of services are offered within each of five categories: computer services, mobile devices, troubleshooting, networking and W-Fi, smart home, audio and video, and computers. AV services, for example, include setting up smart TVs, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, Sonos, and Harmony remote controls as well as mounting TVs. The company also offers training—to help consumers learn how to use and get the most out of mobile and computer technology—and consultation in seven areas, including streaming video devices, smart home tech, and universal remotes. The basic service fee is $59 for the first hour plus $79/hour thereafter and includes an upfront estimation of how much time the service typically takes.
"Running water and electricity in the home created new industries and a need for millions of on-demand plumbers and electricians," said Richard Wolpert, HelloTech CEO and co-founder. "Our homes are going through a similar transformation as technology becomes increasingly embedded in our appliances, entertainment devices, and safety systems. It creates an entirely different pain point for consumers today."
With the growth of home technology comes the need for ongoing in-home support, the company said, noting that existing services tend to “limit help options to in-store or phone support. These solutions seem grossly outdated when so much technology is embedded in home systems or installed within walls.”
"Combining our two companies is a win for consumers and businesses who don't know where to turn for tech support," said Christian Shelton, executive chairman of Geekatoo, which spent five years building a network of 7,000 "Geeks" across the nation. "HelloTech has shown to be a leader in our industry and we look forward to combining our resources and know-how."
Launched in 2015, HelloTech assembled a seasoned management team and business model that earned the company $17 million from top-tier investors.
