Klipsch Ships Onkyo-Powered Flexus Soundbar System

Klipsch today announced that it is now shipping the soundbar-based Flexus Sound System previewed at CES 2024.

The mix-and-match series marks a new collaboration with Japanese electronics powerhouse Onkyo, which is contributing system amplification and expertise gleaned from decades of making some of the world’s most popular AV receivers. The system is designed for quick and easy setup and offers a choice between two soundbars — the Flexus Core 100 ($349) or the larger Core 200 ($499) — either of which can be mated with the Flexus Sub 100 wireless subwoofer ($299) and a pair of Flexus Surr 100 wireless surround speakers ($249/pair) to create a full-system Dolby Atmos theater experience that costs $897 or $1,047.

To ensure reliability and a high level of performance, Klipsch and Onkyo pooled R&D resources and developed a rigorous program that subjects each product to more than 1,000 tests. Klipsch also provides a pre-paired USB transmitter with the Surr 100 surround speakers and Sub 100 that uses proprietary Transport technology to ensure “lightning-quick connections across multiple channels,” even in setups that use two subwoofers.

Sporting woodgrain-textured top panels accented by metal grilles and cloth grilles on the front and sides, both soundbars feature onboard Dolby Atmos processing and support Bluetooth streaming in addition to providing HDMI eARC, optical digital, and USB-C inputs.

The Flexus Core 100 is a sealed 2.1-channel design that mates a pair of front-firing 2.25-inch aluminum-cone drivers and two up-firing 4-inch drivers with a 100-watt RMS amplifier section in a cabinet 28 inches wide. The bar is rated down to 45 Hz and has a maximum acoustic output spec of 96 dB.

The Flexus Core 200 (shown below) ups the ante with a sealed 3.1.2 configuration that uses a 0.75-inch horn-loaded tweeter for the center channel and adds two additional front-firing aluminum-cone drivers and two additional up-firing 2.25-inch full-range drivers in a cabinet 44 inches wide, or 16 inches longer than the Core 100. The bar is rated down to 43 Hz and has a maximum acoustic output spec of 100 dB.

Each of the Flexus Surr 100 wireless surround speakers houses a single 3-inch full-range driver and 50-watt RMS amplifier in a stylish cabinet with rounded corners and a threaded insert on the back for easy wall mounting. Dimensions are 6.75 x 4 x 4.3 inches (H x W x D) and the enclosure is sealed. Each speaker must be plugged into a wall out but there is no need to run wires between the speakers.

Providing a low-end boost that takes the bass down to 26 Hz (±3 dB), the Flexus Sub 100 wireless subwoofer packs a 10-inch long-through driver and 80-watt RMS Class D amplifier capable of hitting 160 watts peak in a sealed enclosure that at 13. 3 x 13.2 x 13.75 inches is more or less a 13-inch cube. Maximum acoustic output is spec’d at 104 dB and the sub provides RCA/LFE line inputs.

In addition to making it easy to select inputs, the Klipsch Connect Plus app (iOS/Android) gives listeners access to an equalizer with presets and other controls in addition to facilitating future firmware and feature updates.

Klipsch and Onkyo are owned by Premium Audio Company (PAC), which is also home to a number of other audio brands, including, Pioneer, Jamo, Mirage, Integra, Teac, and Esoteric. For more information, visit klipsch.com.
