Meet the Z4 Aurora Smart Projector

Chinese startup XGIMI is planning to ship its Z4 Aurora Smart LED Projector in June, having successfully funded the project on Indiegogo. Overfunding is actually a more apt description since the company raised more than $300,000, or 600 percent of its goal.

The 700-lumen pico projector, which resembles a high-tech turntable at a glance, operates on the Android platform, supports 3D and wireless streaming, and is said to project images up to 300 inches, though 10 feet (120 inches) is more typical. The LED light source has a rated life expectancy of 30,000 hours, according to the company.

You can install apps and games onto the Z4 and stream them directly onto the projector, which was built with vertical +/-30 degree and horizontal +/-30 degree keystone correction to provide an “optimal image from any angle.”

The projector comes with a Bluetooth remote control (with mouse functionality for more technical operations) and can be controlled by simple hand gestures. It has built-in Harman Kardon speakers and connections include HDMI, USB, and analog AV jacks.

Pricing for just the projector is $649.

XGIMI had been offering a bundle perk that included a Harman Kardon SB 26 soundbar system ($600 value) but the bundle is sold out. The company said its working with Harman to come up with a replacement bundle.
