Q Acoustics Ships Flagship 5050 Tower Speaker
Priced at $1,999/pair, the 5050 tower steps in as the flagship of the midline 5000 series the company introduced in April 2023. The 5050 joins four other models: the 5010 bookshelf ($749/pair), 5020 bookshelf ($899/pair), 5040 floorstander ($1,499/pair), and 5090 center-channel speaker ($599).
Like its siblings, the 5050 features two (6-inch) C3 Continuous Curved Cone woofers with oversized voice coils and magnets, Point-2-Point (P2P) internal bracing to minimize low-frequency vibrations, and a modern cabinet design with rounded corners. Its 1-inch tweeter, which sits between the two woofers, is housed in a hermetically sealed chamber to isolate it from the front baffle and woofer resonances.
The speaker is also fitted with Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer tubes to reduce internal pressure and standing waves — a trait it shares with the smaller 5040 tower.
Q Acoustics says the C3 flared cone design reduces harmonic distortion and enables smoother integration with the tweeter in addition to improving dispersion and bass performance, while enabling the speaker to sit closer to wall boundaries without adverse consequences.
With a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, the 5050 is rated to down to 37 Hz (–6 dB) and boasts a high sensitivity spec of 91.5 dB, making it an efficient speaker that is easy to drive.
Adding to the 5050’s stylish appearance and working to suppress vibration, the front baffle is laminated with a layer of butyl rubber and black acrylic trim. To keep the speaker steady, its base has a solid-aluminum stabilizer with adjustable spikes.
Finish options include a new light wood veneer in addition to satin black or white, rosewood, and oak. For more information, visit qacoustics.co.uk.
