Britain's Arcam introduced an AV processor and a trio of AV receivers at CEDIA 2019. The new lineup takes its sonic and design cues from the company's high-end HDA range, offering both audiophile-grade DACs and sleek styling.
The benefit to ambient light rejecting (ALR) screens is that they allow for
bigscreen projection systems to be set up in living rooms and other spaces
where there's typically a medium to high level of ambient light. The downside
to ALR screens is that you have an enormous, blank rectangular object
permanently situated on the wall of your living room.
It should come as no surprise that CEDIA is filled with passive soundbars —
custom installers generally prefer to go the passive route, which allows them
to install a bar snugly in or on the wall below a flat-panel TV, with power
coming from a separate, rack-mounted amplifier. It should also come as no
surprise that passive soundbars are part of Paradigm's extensive speaker mix,
which now includes the new Millenia LP Trio that made its debut at CEDIA
2019.
PSB used CEDIA as a platform to show off its new PWM2, an on-wall model
designed for vertical or horizontal installation as an LCR or surround
channel speaker.
Tons of people use Amazon Alexa Echo smart speakers around their homes as an inexpensive way of utilizing voice control for a variety of tasks, and while the Echo is great in this role, it kinda sucks as an audio speaker. Klipsch wants to do something about that with its new KVA-40 and KVA-110 Echo Input Amplifiers that keep everything that’s good about the Echo while kicking the audio performance up several notches.
Following an overriding trend that started many years back, the annual Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) expo, held this year at the Denver Convention Center, showcased an abundance of home automation technologies — everything from networked, voice-controlled window shades and lighting to home security systems. The show even had “wellness rooms” that seek to bring the outdoor experience indoors via circadian lighting, purified air, and ambient nature sounds.
CEDIA has announced the winners of its 2019 Best New Product Awards and the latest inductees to its Product Hall of Fame. The awards recognize technical excellence, innovation, and the value the product provides to integrators and consumers.
With automation controllers designed to run projects of any size, having a system failure can be catastrophic. In a large project, the failure of the main controller or processor could mean that lights don’t work, security integration fails, surveillance cameras would be unreachable, and all the home’s entertainment systems would also go offline. To ensure that these mega-projects keep working through either snow, rain, heat or gloom of night, Control4 unveiled its latest flagship controller, the CA-10 Automation Controller.
The debut of Elac's new Debut Reference actually happened at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest a week prior to CEDIA, but the new speakers nonetheless occupied a prominent place at the center of the brand's CEDIA booth.
One of Sound & Vision's latest Top Picks in projectors went to Epson's Home Cinema 5050UB. At CEDIA, the company was featuring its Pro Cinema 6050UB, which costs a thousand bucks more.
On my first visit to GoldenEar’s sound room I listened to the featured attraction — the new BRX bookshelf speaker. But the company was also running an all-in-wall/ceiling Dolby Atmos demo for anyone who asked to hear it.
