Killer home theater demonstrations touting the latest AV technologies are the staple of any consumer or trade show and CEDIA Expo 2023 that opens in Denver a week from today is no exception. Watch these pages for our coverage.
The Audio Advice Live home entertainment show that ended yesterday in Raleigh, North Carolina was a resounding success. Some of the event’s biggest moments were documented by S&V editor Mark Henninger. Let’s take a look…
Doug Kern, group marketing director for Hisense USA, walked S&V’s Mark Henninger through the highlights of the company’s new 100-inch 4K TV at CEDIA Expo 2023, which wrapped up over the weekend.
With over four decades of innovation, Focal has continually set the bar for sound fidelity and speaker design. Today, we're diving into their latest creation, the Aria Evo X, and exploring how Focal's approach to developing and marketing audio technology has evolved and led to this exciting new update to the popular, but decade-old Aria speaker line.
Joining me are Cedrick Boutonet—CEO of Vervent Audio Group, overseeing both Focal and Naim, and Arnaud Hendoux—managing director for Americas at Vervent Audio Group. We discuss the strategic importance of in-house speaker development and manufacturing, a cornerstone of Focal's identity and success.
At the recent Audio Advice Live 2023 show in Raleigh, NC, I stopped by the Harman/JBL/Samsung demo areas and saw a 140-inch micro-LED display outfitted with a JBL synthesis sound system, JBL Classic Series electronics (making their U.S. debut), and other cool gear.
Large, powered, wireless party speakers have been around for some time, but 2023 marked the first year I truly took notice. I recently reviewed a Sony party speaker, and this year seems to indeed be the year of the party speaker. At Audio Advice Live in Raleigh, North Carolina, I entered a room in the Sheraton and instead of the typical two-channel high-end system or home theater setups, what I found was a dance floor just waiting for a party to get started. This included disco lights, a DJ rig, and a pair of full-size JBL Partybox 710 speakers handling the PA duties.
JVC is renowned for the quality of its D-ILA projectors. They offer some of the highest native contrast that you'll see in a projector that doesn't cost as much as a house. And in this show demo, the company pulled off its usual spectacular exhibition of its projectors' capabilities. In this case, the range-topping DLA-NZ9 ($26,000) took care of business with its 3000-lumen output that filled the screen with convincing HDR.
Meanwhile, GoldenEar is known for its high-performance home theater-friendly speakers, many of which feature integrated subwoofers. All of the company's speaker designs use AMT (folded-ribbon) tweeters.
Video from our booth tours at XGIMI, Harman, and Victrola plus a live demo of LG’s Signature OLED T, the world’s first disappearing television and the only TV that can morph into a fish tank.
The Audio Expo North America showcases the biggest and best that the audio world has to offer, with products coming from all over the world to display. The 2024 show had a record turnout, notably a doubling of Gen Z/age 15-26 participants, an encouraging trend for our hobby. I enjoyed rolling around the various exhibits and checking out the best of the best, but what can be found there that is of interest to the Sound & Vision crowd?
I attended two separate Macintosh demos at Audio Advice Live 2023. They were strikingly different. One was the classic two-channel demo, in this case using new Macintosh equipment that has the classic build quality and aesthetic. The highlight of that demo? Trying to figure out the mysteries of tube sound.
But the other demo also got my attention because it is automotive. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer McIntosh demo—held in front of the hotel—featured an in-cabin entertainment system that is about as over-the-top as any OEM system I've seen or heard in a motor vehicle.
The Audio Advice Live home entertainment show that ended Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina was a resounding success as a showcase for some of the most compelling AV technologies of our time. Many of the event’s biggest moments were documented by S&V editor Mark Henninger. Today we focus on KEF, Klipsch, and Sony. Let’s take a look…
The days of the big TV/AV-focused Panasonic CES press conference are long gone but the company still managed to highlight a couple of audio products at yesterday’s pre-show event: a new ’90s-style minisystem and the latest version of its SoundSlayer gaming speaker.
