Q. After reading your article "Why You Need Four Subwoofers" (November 2006), I felt adding a second subwoofer would probably be enough for my rec room. I just have two questions. First, should the second sub be the same size and power as my first sub, or is it better to have two different sizes? And second, what's the best way to connect two subs to an A/V receiver with only one sub output? Any help will be appreciated. Jim Lowe Hamilton, Ontario

SEAN GREER, Owner, Experience AV Home Theater, Montrose, CO, says: When adding a second subwoofer according to the methods and goals described in the article, do your best to match your current sub exactly. Then, use a simple, high-quality Y-adapter cable to split the receiver's output to get the same signal to the two subs. If your receiver has auto-subwoofer setup, it'll properly calibrate the room just as it would with one sub. If you're using a 1/12-octave equalizer for calibration, you'll need only a one-channel EQ, and, again, you can split the output of the EQ to the multiple subs (two or four) after it's processed your signal.
