While you hear a lot about movie studios doing everything in their power to prevent illegal pirated copies, a new approach is emerging. Instead of fighting it, some Blu-rays come bundled with a DVD that contains Digital Copy versions of the movies. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

The Digital Copys are compatible with PCs and PMPs, and it's not just for Blu-ray.  While 52 Blu-ray titles have these copies, a number of DVD movies also come bundled with a version ready to transfer to your PC.

According to the Digital Entertainment Group, the studios that are onboard with this concept are:

Disney, Fox, Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony, Universal, and Warner. A few smaller studios also offer a handful of Blu-rays bundled with the Digital Copy version.

The actual formats of the Digital Copy disc varies. Some contain FairPlay-protected files for iPod and iPhone, and WMV files for PlaysForSure PMPs. Sony's discs are compatible with PC and PlayStation portable devices.
