The Gadget Girl
Don't just stuff those stockings. Tech those halls! Make room on your list for small devices that will deliver big smiles.
Sleek and stylish, SANDISK's Sansa View (8GB, $150; 16GB, $200; sandisk.com/sansa) is an MP3 player with the full-motion video support typical of larger portable media players. It has a 2.4-inch screen, a backlit scroll wheel, and a microSD expansion slot.
SAMSUNG's über-portable MP3 player, the U3 ($90; samsung.com), which is almost as slim as a stick of gum and weighs less than an ounce. In eye-pleasing colors like green or blue (with matching earbuds), it works right out-of-the-box with its USB connection. Just plug it in, then drag and drop your music files. Equipped with 2GB of memory - to hold about 1,000 songs - the U3 has a battery life of 15 hours.
A digital camera is always a winner at this time of year. SONY's Cyber-shot DSC-T200 ($400; sonystyle.com) has Face Detection technology as well as a Smile Shutter Mode to help you capture the most important parts of your portrait photos. Available in black, silver, or red, the ultra-thin, 8-megapixel camera boasts a 3.5-inch-wide LCD touchpanel. Even better, it allows you to view photos in full high-definition resolution by connecting to an HDTV set via HD cable or cradle (each sold separately).
MUSTEK's KeyFoto, the PF-L100 ($30; mustek.com), is ideal for carrying around pix of your loved ones any time of the year. The 4MB digital photo keychain - compatible with both PC and Mac - stores 42 images, which can be viewed on the 1-inch screen either manually or in slideshow mode.
