An unrated remake of the controversial 1978 cult horror film. A beautiful woman from the city, Jennifer Hills, rents an isolated cabin in the country to write her latest novel. Soon a group of local lowlifes subject Jennifer to a nightmare of degradation, rape and violence. Left for dead, she returns for vengeance. Trapping her male attackers one-by-one, she inflicts acts of physical torment upon them with a ferocity that surpasses her own ordeal. When the carnage clears, victim has become victor.

Anchor Bay delivers a striking HD presentation. This is a film that really looks far better than I’m sure its budget would suggest. Fine object detail is breathtaking at times, even if the subject matter may have many turning away. Colors have a slightly desaturated look but it only lends to the feel of the often bleak film. I loved the longer shots in the woods which resolve even the slightest details and the print used looks impeccable. The audio is also quite good with an appropriately moody score that has you on edge from beginning to end. Sound design is used effectively to help with the tension of the film and punctuate the terror of the subject matter. Imaging is solid throughout and there is plenty of pinpoint surround use to help elevate the more tense sequences.

Anchor Bay includes a digital copy of the film for your portable device. Supplements on the disc include a feature commentary with the director and producers. You also get a look at the making of the film, some trailers and deleted scenes.

Films like this can be hard to sit through. While not the most shocking film I’ve seen in the last few years, it certainly is not for the squeamish. The second half of this film is absolutely brutal in its violence while the first half is disturbing in its frankness. Still, Anchor Bay delivers a gorgeous presentation that will probably go unnoticed given the rest of the imagery onscreen.
