It seems our readership extends far beyond the USA. Here's a question from Helcio in Brazil:

It's been two weeks since I asked readers to weigh in on whether they want more audio reviews with no objective measurements or fewer reviews with measurements. I've received 58 responses so far—thanks to everyone who expressed their opinion! Many of you supported your position with additional thoughts—in fact, a rather lively debate appeared in the comments section of that blog, which offers some entertaining reading.

Last week, I asked readers to weigh in on whether they want more audio-product reviews without objective measurements or fewer reviews with measurements. I've gotten quite a few responses so far, for which I'm grateful, but I'm going to wait one more week before revealing the results and UAV's policy in this regard. If you haven't voted yet, feel free to do so by adding a comment to last week's blog or e-mailing me at scott.wilkinson@sourceinterlink.com

This week, instead of answering a reader question, I'd like to ask you a question. You can answer in one of two ways—either post a comment after this blog or send me an e-mail at scott.wilkinson@sourceinterlink.com.

Here's a question from Rich McGready that echoes a common theme I hear repeated over and over by TV shoppers:

To quote Professor Farnsworth on Futurama, "Good news, everyone!" I figured out how to answer reader questions in my blog (not that it was all that difficult). Now that my company e-mail account is up and running, you can simply send your questions to me at:

Greetings to all UAV readers! As you may have heard, there have been some changes around this digital watering hole. Shane Buettner has moved over to head Home Theater magazine and its associated website, leaving some mighty big shoes to fill here at UAV, a challenge I happily accept.

I really needed a vacation last month. Work was hectic as usual, and I had a few personal problems that piled on top of me all at once, so I felt a strong desire to get out of Dodge (well, Burbank, actually). I was about to hop in my car and hit the road when THX came to my rescue and offered me a far more stylin' ride: a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr with a THX-certified, CD-based audio system they wanted me to review.

The topic of their e-conversation was a petition by the Consumers Union (CU), a non-profit organization that publishes Consumer Reports. The gist of the petition is given on their Web site:

As digital television emerges as the home-entertainment medium of the new century, the convergence of audio/video broadcasting and the Internet is inevitable. After all, DTVs are nothing more than computers dedicated to A/V tasks; it seems a simple matter to include telecommunications capabilities as well. This convergence is made even easier with the increasing use of broadband cable modems, which access the Internet via the same infrastructure that brings television to roughly two-thirds of American homes.

A number of years ago, broadcasters started displaying their logo as a semi-translucent image in the bottom right corner of the screen. I find this very distracting, but I suppose it was inevitable; as the number of channels on most cable and satellite systems increases, it becomes harder and harder to remember what channel you're watching. And don't forget the anti-piracy aspect of these logos.

We live in troubling times. Many people look at our society and see an increasing erosion of morality and civility, which leads them to yearn for the perfect suburbia as depicted in early television sitcoms such as Father Knows Best and Leave It to Beaver.

Most of the content on this Web site concerns how to get the most out of watching movies in a home theater. However, I readily admit that I spend most of my tube time watching television programming, both HD and SD. Now, don't get me wrong—I love watching a fine film from a high-quality DVD on a big screen with surround sound in cozy comfort. But I also love to watch TV, and a quality home theater system enhances this pastime as well.
