Whether it dates back to classic TV shows like My Favorite Martian who knows but levitating speakers are apparently a thing. We recommended the Om/One novelty speaker in our 2014 Holiday Gift Guide and now Taiwan-based ASWY has announced that it will unveil a prototype wireless home theater system with levitating speakers at IFA 2016 in Berlin, which opens September 4.

CD-based compact stereo systems were all the rage in the ‘90s. Virtually every big AV brand offered minisystems—as they were called—and a few of them were pretty good (and pricey).

On Tuesday, Irvine, CA-based startup Epict launched its WatchAir Smart HDTV Antenna on Kickstarter. Less than four days later the company had already funded 97 percent of its $50,000 goal with 29 days to spare. Not too shabby.

Triad’s new Outdoor Series of two-way speakers are available in two woofer sizes but what sets them apart from the scads of other weather-resistant speakers is that the company will paint them any color you want and even custom-match colors for a “slight upcharge.”

The Swedish group’s final studio album The Visitors was the world’s first commercially produced CD when it rolled off the production line 34 years ago this week at the Philips/Polygram-owned CD manufacturing plant in Langenhagen, Germany.

In early October Sennheiser will open a flagship showroom in the Westfield World Trade Center, which opened Tuesday in the visually stunning Oculus building designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. The structure is the transit centerpiece of Ground Zero in New York City.
