Audyssey Moves into IMAX Theaters

The IMAX Corporation, which operates the biggest screens with the best picture in the universe, is partnering with Audyssey to bring MultEQ technology into theaters.

Audyssey MultEQ (and its little sister 2EQ) are featured in audio/video receivers. These Audyssey technologies help newbies set up their units. They also perform room correction by taking measurements in various parts of the room and arriving at settings that provide good surround sound to every seat in the home theater.

In IMAX theaters, MultEQ will work in combination with IMAX's proprietary audio calibration system.

What's remarkable about the latest news is that Audyssey is moving from home theaters into large-scale public theaters. Usually it's the other way around.

Audyssey seems to be on a roll, having recently introduced several other home surround technologies, including DSX width and height enhancement, and two low-volume listening enhancements, Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ. No word on whether these things will find their way into larger-scale theaters.
