LG may become the next manufacturer to give up on plasma, following similar moves by Hitachi, NEC, and Vizio and Pioneer's total exit from TV manufacturing.

A Kyodo News report picked up by Whirlpool quotes the head of LG's Japanese operations that the company is contemplating pulling out of plasma. The Google translation is hard to interpret but the headline includes the words "prolonged slump" and "consider withdrawal." Our request for comment received none.

As Engadget noted, "it'd be sort of crazy for LG not to drop out, but what's even crazier is going from five major plasma makers to two within the course of two months." Panasonic and Samsung: Your move.
