Facebook Holds Off On Smart Speaker Announcement

Still reeling from last month’s data-privacy scandal, Facebook has decided not to preview the smart speaker it has been working on at the upcoming annual Facebook Developer Conference, according to a Bloomberg report.

The company’s first hardware product, slated for release later this year, is “undergoing a deeper review to ensure that they make the right trade-offs regarding user data,” the report said, adding that focus group testing had already revealed that users are wary of having a Facebook-branded device in their homes, given how much data the social network collects.

Facebook still plans to launch the smart speaker later this year.
