For Rocky Mountain Rescue, the mission is almost routine: locate five climbers. With the woman he loves and his best friend, Gabe Walker braves the icy peaks only to discover that the distress call is really a trap set by merciless international terrorist Eric Qualen. Now millions of dollars and their own lives hang in the balance. Against explosive firepower, bitter cold, and dizzying heights, Walker must outwit Qualen in a deadly game of hide-and-seek.

This was one of the last Stallone summer blockbusters that I really enjoyed. I’ve enjoyed his recent offerings from familiar franchises, but his blockbusters were growing a bit tired. Harlin delivers a solid summer outing with this one though and actually put together a great ensemble cast. Stallone isn’t over the top (no pun intended!) and Lithgow was disturbing as the mastermind. A nice revisit!

Sony delivers a great presentation that may look a bit too clean. Noise reduction doesn’t look overly prevalent, but you can tell this one’s been cleaned up a bit. Fine detail is still quite good though and I was impressed with the depth of image. Fine film grain varies a bit from scene to scene giving the overall viewing a bit of an uneven experience. The soundtrack delivers some solid dynamic range, even if the sound design can feel a bit dated. The surrounds add a lot to the mix and the score is engaging. No real complaints here!

Sony delivers its MovieIQ feature giving you realtime access to cast and crew bios and info while you watch the film. You also get a feature commentary, some interviews and behind the scenes features.

One of Stallone’s better catalog titles finally makes it way to Blu and Sony delivers the goods nicely. Fans should be more than happy with the release.
