Iron Man 2—Paramount Pictures (Blu-ray)

In "Iron Man 2", the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts, and James "Rhodey" Rhodes at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

The first Iron Man film was a bit of a mixed bag for video on Blu-ray and this one seems to follow suit. Close ups reveal great fine detail and I love the poppy colors that seem to come alive on the screen, but detail wavers a bit more than I would prefer for a big budget film like this. Some of this is from the film’s rather inconsistent special effects work, but there is also something to be said about the inconsistent nature of the photography. This was also the case with the theatrical presentation, though I do think the Blu-ray looks a bit better than the D-Cinema presentation I saw this summer. The DTS-HD Master Audio mix is a gem though with plenty of great sound design, gut wrenching bass response and great use of the surround soundstage. Where they missed the mark in visual richness, they more than made up for it in sonic might.

The 3-disc set includes not only some great insight into the Marvel universal but also a 4-part making of diary that goes into the production of the film with onset footage, lots of interviews and more. You also get a look at some of the new characters introduced in this film and their place in the Marvel universe. Paramount has also included a DVD copy of the film and a portable copy for your digital idevices.

Iron Man 2 is good summer fun but not quite the surprise the first film was. The Blu-ray delivers the goods and then some so if you were a fan of the film, this is a no brainer.
