Vegas, Baby. Where Nomi's dreams and desires to make it big are as sharp as a stiletto heel. When she catches the eye of Cristal, the Stardust's sexy headliner, Nomi is on the brink of realizing her dreams. But she soon realizes that there is only room for one starlet on the marquee...and that either she or Cristal will have to take a fall!.
I still find it surprising that Verhoeven even wasted his time with this one. A camp classic in many ways, simply because of how bad it is. Suffice it to say, the film ends up a parody of itself with bad acting, little in the way of titillation, and a horrible example of what a sexy film should be. But I’m sure budding teenage boys will love it!
MGM serves up a solid presentation with this one. The photography in this film is actually quite good and holds up well on Blu-ray. Detail is decent and depth of image is solid throughout. The colors look a bit dated but contrast levels hold up well. The audio side holds up well with solid dynamics, but overly dramatic musical selections that really show the film’s age. Imaging is solid though and the dialogue never comes off harsh (despite the bad lines!).
Extras are theme driven and include a look at pole dancing for fitness and a rundown on how to give a good lap dance. Wow. There is also a rather humorous commentary and a trivia track. You also get the DVD of the film included in the package.
This one just never went anywhere for me. It isn’t sexy, it isn’t even provocative. Instead it is overly done and excessive in every way, which takes away any steam it might have tried to produce. Skip it.
