Kayak Speakers - No, Not THAT Kind of Kayak Speaker
The Sonance Kayak speaker isn't a speaker for your favorite whitewater Delta kayak. No, the Kayak speaker, if you hold your head just right and squint just a little bit, looks like a kayak suspended in your living room.
Italian speaker designers with NACSound for Sonance put together this rather unique speaker. It can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at any other angle with the special arc, if running it from floor to ceiling doesn't work for you.
Why am I only talking about one speaker?
You only need one speaker. The manufacturer claims that the coaxial speakers mounted on either side of the acoustic reflector enables a single Kayak to produce stereo sound. Now, I don't play an audio engineer on TV, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but I am an audio engineer in real life, and I just can't imagine much separation between channels, especially in a vertical orientation. But, I haven't heard them; they could be amazing.
The single module has two 1.1" silk dome tweeters and two 5.7" woofers. The impedance is 8 ohms, the power handling is rated at 60 watts per channel.
The Kayak is available in a choice of 14 finishes. How much will it set you back? This single beauty is available for a mere $2,900. -Leslie Shapiro
