A look inside Sony's Australian Blu-ray factory
If you've ever wondered where that new Blu-ray smell originates, you'll certainly be interested in this photographic tour of Sony's factory in Australia. News.com.au has an incredible slideshow showing off the process required for turning truckloads of small, polycarbonate granules into the HD-toting discs we have all come to love so much. Some of the frames look right out of a sci-fi film, especially the fourth one, which depicts the robot that smashes melted plastic into that familiar disc shape.
On a side note, we can't help but wonder what ever happened to the machines that once churned out millions of laser discs and VHS tapes?
