Manufacturers - A Rose By Any Other Name . . .

Branding is a big thing. Apple gets it: A Nano is a Nano, a Shuffle is a Shuffle. Cher gets it. As do Sting, Madonna, and Bono. However, most electronics manufacturers just don't.

Simple, easy to read, easy to say, and easy to research names for electronics products are certainly the exception, not the rule. Try looking up a TV online, if you can even remember the often meaningless string of numbers that follow the already meaningless name.

What do Vaio, Bravia, Regza, or Viera mean? Some companies try to get a catchy name, so you'll have an LG Scarlet, but then come all those numbers. Why can't it simply be a 42" Scarlet, or if you must, add a model year?

Our friends over at CNET have an amusing look at this amusing situation.
