Obama: Get Ready for the DTV Transition

President Obama has added his voice to the chorus of warnings about the impending DTV transition.

The final act of the transition--in which broadcasters will shut down the remaining analog signals--is scheduled for Friday of this week, June 12, 2009. Previously it had been scheduled for February 17, 2009. Then-president-elect Obama, saying that antenna-dependent analog-TV households needed more time to get ready, had the date pushed back. Now, he says:

"The number of households unprepared for digital television has been cut in half. Still, some people are not ready. I want to be clear: there will not be another delay. I urge everyone who is not yet prepared to act today, so you don't lose important news and emergency information on June 12. And I encourage all Americans who are prepared, to talk to their friends, family, and neighbors to make sure they get ready before it's too late."
