Among the many treasures on display at Sony's CES booth were several prototypes of flat panel displays based on Organic LED- or OLED. The model shown above was 26" diagonal, and there were several models on display that were sized appropriately for portable Blu-ray players or personal media players.

LEDs have advantages over LCD in that the diodes turn completely off, as opposed to backlit LCDs in which the lights never really go out. These devices promise, and indeed showed excellent blacks and contrast and very rich, saturated and realistic colors.

No products were announced or timetables given, but as a technology showcase these displays made a bigger impression than their dimunitive size would suggest.
