Review: Dish Network ViP 922 Slingloaded DVR Page 4
Bottom Line
I enjoyed my time with the Dish Network ViP 922 DVR, which performed well even under sometimes trying circumstances, such as a Nor-easter. Its Sling capability is a great feature, and one that I'll miss with DirecTV. But with an updated interface, easy navigation, and a he-man-size hard drive, the ViP 922 has other appealing attributes. Dish's SlingLoaded DVR doesn't come cheap: In addition to the lease fee of $200 to $400 (depending on account status), you have to pay $17 per month for a SlingLoaded receiver fee on top of a monthly $10 DVR service fee. Also, it lacks some features found on the Slingbox Pro HD outboard unit, which has no additional monthly fees, as well as the Google TV platform available for other Dish receivers. As such, many Dish subscribers will have to carefully evaluate whether the ViP 922's enhancements warrant its additional cost.
