Samsung Taking Orders for New 98-Inch 4K QLED TV
The $500 “reserve” discount is available through July 2 and the additional “early order” discount and perks kick in for orders placed between July 3rd and July 23rd. The soundbar included in the deal is Samsung’s 5.1.2-channel Atmos-enabled HW-Q800C, currently selling for $750 and designed to operate with the TV speakers for a richer audio experience.
The QN98Q80C is expected to start shipping in early July.
With a slim-bezel screen measuring more than 7 feet across and 4 feet tall, the QN98Q80C features Samsung’s LED-based Direct Full Array backlighting to boost picture contrast “even in sunlit rooms” and Quantum HDR+ technology, which analyzes images scene by scene to enhance brightness and contrast. The set boasts Samsung’s TV Plus platform for video on demand and access to hundreds of free ad-supported channels and employs Samsung’s AI-powered Neural Quantum Processor to upscale all content to 4K resolution regardless of the source.
Brightness isn’t specified but Samsung says the Q80C covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space to achieve more lifelike color. The TV features Samsung’s Gaming Hub for easy access to upwards of 3,000 games and supports 4K up to 120 Hz for lag-free gameplay.
In a new twist, the remote control included with the Q80C has a solar panel for charging.
Last year Samsung introduced the QN100B, a stunning 98-inch TV with an equally stunning $40,000 price tag that uses a massive array of “ultra-precise” mini LEDs to achieve a super-bright image. Samsung calls the top-tier technology behind the QN100B Quantum Matrix (a.k.a. Neo QLED) and it is capable of exceeding a remarkable 1000 nits in high-dynamic range (HDR) mode.

Hilarious, the question no one ever asked. I have a brand new 85" 8K Samsung panel. Its in a room where light can come in but honestly its always darkened. Putting the remote in direct sunlight is a PITA. I plug the remote into the multi-port usb charger below my coffee table. All of my remotes and tablets reside there. I just can't see any benefit in breaking up the band. I'd rather see the cost of that silliness put to making the remote battery larger.
