Universal Goes Blu This Summer

Doomsday will be the first of 40 Blu-ray titles to arrive from Universal in the second half of this year, according to Reuters. This will be the first round of Blus from the former HD DVD supporter.

While Doomsday wasn't exactly box-office catnip, Universal's starting lineup will also include the first two seasons of the TV series Heroes.

Other Blu-ray releases to arrive July 22 will include The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, both starring Brendan Fraser, and The Scorpion King with Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson.

Also coming are such major titles as The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton, William Hurt and Liv Tyler; Wanted, with James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie; Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mamma Mia, a musical with Meryl Streep; and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor with Brendan Fraser and Jet Li.

There will also be back catalogue titles before year-end: American Gangster, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Miami Vice, End of Days, U-571, and Land of the Dead.
