VR Gets Real (Finally) as Oculus Rift Ships

The parade of prototypes and development kits of the super-hyped Oculus Rift ends on Monday with delivery of the first consumer version of the virtual reality headset.

Confirmation of delivery arrived yesterday via a tweet by Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe: “The first Oculus Rift has shipped, deliveries begin Monday 3.28.2016.” Oculus Rift made headlines in the summer of 2012 when it launched a Kickstarter campaign that raised $2.5 million.

But the wait is not over for everyone who preordered Rift. According to a report from The Verge, “If you weren't one of the lucky few to nab a preorder back in January, you'll unfortunately have to wait until July to get your Rift bundle if you place an order today.”

The Oculus Rift bundle is available on oculus.com for $600 and includes the headset, a sensor, remote control, Xbox One controller, and two games: EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky's Tale.

Oculus VR announced last week that 30 games would be available at launch. A list is available here. According to The Verge, Oculus is also partnering with Alienware, Asus, and Dell to offer Rift-ready PC bundle .
