Blu-ray Movie Reviews

It seems like we've seen plenty of renditions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers over the years. Some have been quite good while others blend into the B-Movie pile. This one leans more toward the latter, though has its moments. The production style is slick, but most of the actors can't seem to rise about the weak script. The film moves along at a rather slow pace, which doesn't help either. In the end we’re given a premise that doesn't seem to make you care one way or another what happens, and a collection of solid A-list actors phoning it in.

Warner delivers an average HD transfer here that never quite disappoints, but never really impresses either. There is some great detail here, but there are also too many shots that came off soft lending a distracting quality on occasion. Color balance is natural though giving the image a satisfying film like quality most of the time. Contrast is on the weaker side with slightly elevated blacks that lend to a flat look in the darker moments of the film.

The soundtrack is presented in lossless Dolby TrueHD and like the film it tends to underwhelm. There are a few moments when the sound design opens up the soundstage a bit, but this isn't much of an action film so these moments are a bit few and far between. Ambience is decent enough though and the score keeps the soundstage open. Deep bass is present from time to time with clean extension into the lower octaves.

Extras are in HD and include a look at the themes of the film and a couple prototypical production features.

While the film wasn't an utter waste of time I just can't give it a solid recommendation. It's been done too many times before, and most of those times delivered a far better experience.
