Sure, your TV is big. But is it wall-sized? (Hopefully, it's not wallet-sized). Japanese electronics manufacturer Shinoda Plasma Corp. is demonstrating a TV that may provide a convincing argument that you need a bigger house. What's more, their technology permits a display that is very thin and extremely lightweight.

The Shipla Wall is a 125-inch curved-surface display that uses proprietary plasma tube array (PTA) technology. Its tubes create a plasma display that is as thin as 1 millimeter, and its weight of about 3.6 kg is about one-tenth that of other plasma and LED displays.

The overall screen measures 3 x 1 meters, and employs three 1 x 1 meter sub-modules placed sideways. The display has a resolution of 960 x 360 pixels.

The Shipla Wall is being demonstrated at InfoComm 08 in Las Vegas in June; there's no word on cost or availability. However, the company plans to start mass-production of the 1 x 1 meter sub-modules in October. The lead time is good - gives you time to find that bigger house. -Ken C. Pohlmann
