Last Dynaudio Sapphire Speakers to be Auctioned for Charity

Back in October 2009, I profiled Dynaudio's Sapphire speakers, a limited-edition, high-performance model created to celebrate the company's 30th anniversary. Next month, the last pair—serial number 1000/1000—will be sold to the highest bidder by Danish online auctioneer Lauritz, and the entire proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders, an international charity that provides humanitarian medical services in nearly 60 countries.

The pair being auctioned sports the model's signature blue-stained bird's-eye maple veneer with clear piano lacquer. It will be on display at Lauritz's showroom in Hamburg, Germany, during the auction, which begins on Wednesday, May 12, and ends on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 2:00 PM MEST (Middle European Summer Time), which is 7:00 AM EDT in the US. The last Sapphires should fetch more than the $16,500/pair retail price, which will be of great benefit to a very worthy cause.
