Denon AVR-2112CI A/V Receiver HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures

Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 76.6 watts
1% distortion at 85.5 watts

Seven channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 52.3 watts
1% distortion at 63.2 watts

Analog frequency response in Pure Direct mode:
–0.14 dB at 10 Hz
–0.04 dB at 20 Hz
–0.07 dB at 20 kHz
–2.80 dB at 50 kHz

Analog frequency response with stereo signal processing:
–0.42 dB at 10 Hz
–0.14 dB at 20 Hz
–0.77 dB at 20 kHz
–58.65 dB at 50 kHz

This graph shows that the AVR-2112CI’s left channel, from CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 96.6 watts and 1 percent distortion at 117.5 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 79.9 watts and 1 percent distortion at 144.4 watts. (Please note: Though unusual, the two-channel output has been double-checked, and the power at 0.1 percent distortion is higher at 8 ohms than at 4 ohms, even though the 1 percent numbers are as expected.)

There is no multichannel analog input to measure. THD+N from the CD input to the speaker output was less than 0.026 percent at 1 kilohertz when driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load. Crosstalk at 1 kHz driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load was –72.89 decibels left to right and –77.09 dB right to left. The signal-to-noise ratio with an 8-ohm load from 10 Hz to 24 kHz with “A” weighting was –109.77 dBrA.

From the Dolby Digital input to the loudspeaker output, the left channel measures –0.09 dB at 20 hertz and –0.20 dB at 20 kHz. The center channel measures –0.10 dB at 20 Hz and –0.28 dB at 20 kHz, and the left surround channel measures –0.09 dB at 20 Hz and –0.29 dB at 20 kHz. From the Dolby Digital input to the line-level output, the LFE channel is –0.01 dB at 20 Hz when referenced to the level at 40 Hz and reaches the upper 3-dB down point at 118 Hz and the upper 6-dB down point at 121 Hz.—MJP

Video Test Bench
The Denon neither deinterlaces nor upconverts for HDMI and component inputs, where its video inputs are passthrough only. Therefore, the only applicable test results are Video Clipping and Resolution. Of these, it passed only the Digital Luma and Chroma resolution tests. In both the Analog and Digital tests, it clipped both above-white and below-black information from the input signal. (The Digital tests were 1080p to 1080p, input to output; the Analog tests were 1080i to 1080i.)—TJN

You review of the AVR 2112Ci suggests that the Receiver clips some Whites and Blacks. This is a known issue with some of the xx12 Denon Receivers and was remedied via a Firmware update. I highly suggest you perform a Firmware update and possibly redo the "Video Test Bench" so your readers can have a more accurate review. Thanks,

Ray
