Consumer alert: we’ve all been misled for years, with companies selling us wireless headphones with wires. While they might use Bluetooth to wirelessly transmit the signal from the player to the headphones, typically there is still a cable of some sort connecting the left and right earpieces. HearNotes is truly wireless – or WireFree as they like to say.

You could crank up the sound system in your car. You could open your windows and use your home theater. I guess you could even turn on your phone and have everyone keep really quiet. But the best way to enjoy tunes out on the patio is to buy an outdoor speaker. Outdoor speakers are typically portable, cordless, and water resistant, provide a bit of fidelity even if it's not always high. AR has some nice new ones for your outdoor listening pleasure

It’s hard to get big bass sound from a small, portable player, but the Braven Balance, debuting at CES seems to make it work.

NYNE is making it harder and harder to find an excuse not to get outside and ride your bike, or taking your kids out for a stroll. They’re showing off three new IPX-rated outdoor speakers, all with Bluetooth and all ready to roll.

While the Panasonic booth was heavy on things other than HDTVs and Ultra HDTVs (unlike past years, where walls of the Panasonic were covered with now defunct plasma sets), there were a couple of items of video interest...

If you’re one of the 83% of adults that drinks coffee in the US, then you probably care about the quality and flavor and freshness of your morning Joe. And if you are in the group of people that is looking to press the boundaries of freshness beyond just grinding your own beans, then you are definitely going to be interested in Bonaverde’s Dalia.

Like every other major TV maker at CES, Sony is demo’ing high dynamic range content. And like every other HDR demo I’ve seen at CES, Sony’s makes conventional, non-HDR displays look grossly inadequate in comparison.

If you have a home, then you probably have a lawn. And if you have a lawn then you probably have an irrigation system. Even with programming and some crude scheduling, these are dumb devices that essentially haven't been changed or seen any real technological updates in years and just run until you remember to tell them to stop. I can’t tell you how many times I wake up to hear my sprinkler system running as it competes with a massive South Carolina rainstorm. Or how I try and remind myself to turn the system off for winter – and back on for summer – but inevitably forget to do it until multiple cycles into the new season. Fortunately, technology in the form of Skydrop is coming to bring some intelligence and Internet control to irrigation controllers.

Still not stoked about 3D TV? How about an 8K-res 3D LED TV that doesn’t require glasses—one that’s 110 inches?

While its pixel-splitting Beyond 4K sets were the ones that grabbed the most attention at Sharp’s CES press conference, there are other 4K TV highlights to be seen in a visit to the company’s CES booth.

The coolest bits of technology can often come from someone looking at the same problem everyone else has but seeing a new and better way to fix it. Every been awakened at 3 AM to the dreadful CHIRP! from a smoke alarm? Ever heard the chirping and then had to wander around the house trying to figure out which detector it is that is making the infernal racket? What if you were away at work or on vacation and your house caught fire…wouldn’t you like to know about it before you came home to find the smoldering ruins of Pompeii where your home theater used to be? These are all problems solved in a brilliantly simple manner by Roost.

Micromega is not a company associated with speakers, so we were astounded when we heard how good the $349/pair MySpeaker sounded.
