Denon’s $249 Soundbar Boasts DTS Virtual:X Surround

Denon today introduced a $249 all-in-one soundbar featuring DTS Virtual:X processing, which simulates a DTS:X-like immersive sound field without using up-firing height speakers.

The new DHT-S216 packs six drivers — two 3-inch down-firing woofers, a pair of 1.75 x 3.5-inch mids, and two 1-inch tweeters — in a low-profile enclosure only 2.3-inches tall. Designed to be set up in minutes via an HDMI (with Audio Return Channel) or optical audio connection, the soundbar can be tucked below the bottom edge of a TV without obscuring its infrared (IR) sensor or mounted on the wall.

In addition to Virtual:X processing, the soundbar is equipped with Dolby Digital decoding and supports Bluetooth for streaming music and other audio content. It also has three EQ presets — Movie, Night, and Music — plus Denon’s three-mode Dialogue Enhancer, which is said to improve dialogue intelligibility without having to increase the overall volume. A Pure Mode setting that bypasses all signal processing is also provided.

The soundbar supports 4K/60 Hz and HDCP 2.2 passthrough and is designed to be controlled by TV’s remote.
