Harman/Kardon CP 35 Home Theater System HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: Harman/Kardon CP 35 HTIB

Two channels driven into 8-ohm loads: 0.2% distortion at 84.6 watts 1% distortion at 96.2 watts

Two channels driven into 4-ohm loads: The unit goes into protection at 83.4 watts.

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the SAT-TS14 satellites (purple trace), SUB-TS14 subwoofer (blue trace), and CEN-TS14 center channel (green trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.

The SAT-TS14's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.87/–2.14 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3dB point is at 182 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 152 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 8.36 ohms at 463 Hz and a phase angle of –40.89 degrees at 224 Hz. Sensitivity averages 87 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz.

The CEN-TS14's listening-window response measures +1.17/–2.83 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and (+/–15-degree) horizontal responses measures +1.29/–3.52 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3dB point is at 170 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 145 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 8.35 ohms at 403 Hz and a phase angle of –37.20 degrees at 224 Hz. Sensitivity averages 87 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz.

The SUB-TS14's close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3dB point is at 42 Hz and the –6dB point is at 35 Hz. The upper –3dB point is at 104 Hz.

Crosstalk at 1 kHz driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load was –86.62 dB left to right and –85.52 dB right to left. THD+N from the amplifier was less than 0.017% at 1 kHz when driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load. The signal-to-noise ratio with 2.83 volts driving an 8-ohm load from 10 Hz to 24 kHz with "A" weighting was –95.65 dBrA.—MJP
