Video projectors keep getting smaller, lighter, and better looking—especially from companies like InFocus Corporation. InFocus choose the recent INFOCOMM show in Las Vegas, held June 13–15, to debut the new LP530 digital video projector, which incorporates Sage's FLI2200 deinterlacer. The FLI2200 is the world's first 10-bit single-chip motion adaptive deinterlacer, with Faroudja's deinterlacing and post-processing algorithms to convert standard interlaced video signals into progressive scan signals. The resulting image is said to be among the best available, with an absolute minimum of motion artifacts, flicker, or color irregularities.

"The LP530 is a revolutionary digital projector that offers unmatched brightness and exceptional picture quality," stated Pierre Richer, director of product marketing for InFocus. "The difference created by Sage's proprietary cross-color suppression and DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology is very clear to our customers, who can now attain unequaled picture quality." The DCDi algorithm eliminates the jagged edges seen on moving angled lines in video images, according to Sage. "The FLI2200 also features Film Mode deinterlacing, invented and patented by Faroudja, for proper handling of 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown as well as bad edit detection/correction," states an official press release. "The FLI2200 supports 8/10-bit ITU-R BT656, 16/20-bit YUV, and 24/30-bit RGB, YcrCb, and YPrPb interlaced inputs and progressive outputs with auto-detection of NTSC/PAL/SECAM inputs," it explains.

The worldwide market for front-projection video is expected to triple within the next six years, from one million units in 2000 to three million units by 2006, according to estimates by San Jose, CA–based Stanford Resources, a market research organization. Sage seems very well positioned to benefit from this trend. "InFocus is setting a new standard by integrating this high quality video into a mainstream projector, and the company's customers will enjoy the benefits of features such as cross-color suppression and DCDi that are unique to the FLI2200. We are pleased to see the FLI2200 enter another market segment, following its previously announced successes in the progressive-scan DVD and enhanced TV markets," said Dr. Nikhil Balram, Sage's executive vice president and general manager for consumer products. The LP530 will be available to dealers in July, he stated.
