Mordaunt-Short Mezzo 6 Speaker System HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: Mordaunt-Short Mezzo 6 Speaker System

L/R Sensitivity: 89 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
Center Sensitivity: 89 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
Surround Sensitivity: 87.5 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the Mezzo 6 L/R (purple trace), Mezzo 9 subwoofer (blue trace), Mezzo 5 center channel (green trace), and Mezzo 2 surround (red trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured with grilles at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.

The Mezzo 6’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +0.83/–6.16 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3-dB point is at 54 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 35 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.05 ohms at 8.1 kHz and a phase angle of –47.27 degrees at 3.6 kHz.

The Mezzo 5’s listening-window response measures +2.31/–4.30 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +2.40/–5.75 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 89 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 77 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.51 ohms at 9.9 kHz and a phase angle of –55.07 degrees at 4.7 kHz.

The Mezzo 2’s listening-window response measures +1.00/–4.96 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 64 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 50 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.58 ohms at 8.1 kHz and a phase angle of –46.57 degrees at 3.6 kHz.

The Mezzo 9’s close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3-dB point is at 54 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 40 Hz. The upper –3-dB point is at 175 Hz using the LFE input with the controls set to factory defaults.—MJP
