More CE Week Tech Bits: Wire-Free Earbuds and Microphone Modeling

Previewed at the recent CE Week event in New York City, the HearNotes wire-free earbuds use Kleer technology to stream CD-quality uncompressed audio with “extremely low latency and power consumption.”

The buds come with a “plug-n-play” minijack transmitter said to work with almost any device and a carrying case that doubles as an inductive (wireless) charging pad. The HearNotes package will sell for about $350 when it becomes available this fall.

One of the coolest apps we’ve come across in a while is the Mic Room microphone modeling app from IK Multimedia, available for iOS devices on the App Store for $7.99. Using any of IK’s microphones (including the $180 iRig Mic Studio shown here) or the iPad’s built-in mic, you can mimic the tone of eight different studio microphones stored in the app’s library. Choices include dynamic, condenser, and ribbon. IK also offers a free version of the app but it has modeling for only one microphone.
