NAD Masters Series M55 Universal DVD Player Manufacturer's Comment

Manufacturer's Comment

NAD thanks Tom Norton for his usually thorough review of the M55, and indeed the entire Masters Series home theatre suite of products, including the M15 and M25.

NAD's primary objective with the M55 Digital Disc Player was to maximize both the video and audio performance for each of the supported formats. We had an exhaustive (and exhausting!) development program to wring every last ounce of performance from each format. Judging by Tom's comments on both the video and audio performance, we have fully achieved our objective. Tom's statements, "The M55's picture may well be the best I have seen in my home theater from standard definition DVDs." and "the best high resolution audio discs in my collection sounded superb on the M55, particularly through the midrange and top end." really says it all!

Some of the ergonomic quirks Tom discussed come down to the complexity and limitations of the different formats. Creating a unified and seamless user interface with what are essentially three different players in one box was an exceedingly difficult challenge. I can only say that like any other piece of complex hi-tech gear, once you are set up and get familiar with the operation of the M55, it is really quite simple. NAD dealers are happy to provide assistance to customers to get them up and running, and most offer complete installation services.

While the M55 is primarily focused on video and surround sound performance, with support for high resolution audio, we also make a sister model to the M55 called the M5, which removes the DVD playback and focuses completely on SACD and CD audio performance.
