Radio Shack to become "The Shack?"

RadioshackRadio Shack has been a fixture in my family since before I was born. It's where I got my first computer repair kit, my first soldering iron, and my first spool of speaker wire. It's always been "Radio Shack" to me, space or no space, and despite the company's possible upcoming branding change, it always will.

It seems that RadioShack plans to rebrand itself as just "The Shack," dropping the Radio descriptor that has been part of its name for over 8 decades. While the change isn't official yet, this upcoming "Netogether" event to be held in New York and San Francisco seems to emphasize the idea that Radio Shack just wants to be called "The Shack." While it's true Radio Shack hasn't emphasized radios and their components for several decades, it still has built up a huge brand identity in its name. If the company is indeed changing its name significantly (a few years ago, the company went through a much more minor change, removing the space in its name to turn Radio Shack into RadioShack), this could be a jarring change for the electronics enthusiasts who have come to rely on the chain.
