Ready for a Little Time Travel?
The French-based startup Timescope plans to unveil a “time travel machine” based on virtual-reality (VR) next month at CES 2018.
Described as the first implementation of self-service “full-immersion” VR, the Timescope kiosk lets viewers travel back and forth through decades — even centuries — to experience how the exact location in which they are standing has changed over time. The system recreates “animated, realistic 3D environment.”
About 15 Timescope kiosks have already been installed at “strategic French locations” in Paris, including the site of the Bastille fortress that dates back to the 14th Century, the spectacular Galeries Lafayette department store built in 1912, and the Charles De Gaulle Airport. The company plans to deploy 100 kiosks worldwide by the end of 2018.
