SXSW 2007: Minstrels in a Gallery

From Brooklyn's Aa (pronounced "Big A, little a") to Amsterdam's zZz (who knows?), more than 1,300 artists played the 21st annual South by Southwest Music & Media Conference in Austin, Texas. And they're all here! Just kidding. No magazine could manage that, unless it had sent a fleet of nearly six dozen writers. (As if!) But Sound & Vision's intrepid Entertainment Editor Ken Richardson, armed with a new pair of shoes and a couple of reporter's notebooks, did manage to see 30 acts (including Atlanta's Tiger! Tiger!, shown above) throughout the 69 venues over the course of the four-day music festival - all presented here, in alphabetical order, in a handy gallery. And there's one extra band for all of you bonus-track-lovers out there.

Richardson also provides highlights from the keynote interview with Pete Townshend. And S&V readers will surely be interested in a panel discussion on something near and dear to them: "Why Does Today's Music Sound Like Shit?" Among the participants were producer Sandy Pearlman and legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig.
