The Toshiba 37HLX95's Warm color-temperature preset measured very blue during testing - it was so far off the chart that I couldn't get a numerical reading with our test equipment. Service-level calibration easily corrected this, however, and afterward grayscale tracking was ±300 K from 30 to 100 IRE, which is average performance. (Calibration needs to be performed by a qualified technician, so discuss it with your dealer before purchase, or contact the Imaging Science Foundation at imagingscience.com or 561-997-9073.)

Color-decoder error was minimal via all inputs, measuring only +5 red from the built-in DVD player and -2.5 green from the HDMI input. The set's highly accurate color decoding contributed strongly to its vivid color rendition.

Overscan was about 4% for the DVD player and the component-video input and 5% for the HDMI input - higher than average. Screen uniformity looked good from a center position, but picture brightness and color saturation dropped off dramatically at 30° and greater viewing angles. The set easily resolved every line in a 720p-format multiburst pattern via its HDMI input but came up short of that with a component-video connection. I'd recommend sticking with the HDMI digital video connection.
