Zombie Strippers—Sony Pictures (Blu-ray)

Video: 4/5
Audio: 4.25/5
Extras: 3.5/5

When a secret government agency lets out a deadly chemo virus causing the reanimation of the dead, the first place to get hit is Rhino's, a hot underground strip club. As one of the strippers gets the virus, she turns into a supernatural, flesh-eating zombie stripper, making her the hit of the club. Do the rest of the girls fight the temptation to be like the star stripper, even if there is no turning back?

Honestly, with a title like this you should really go in with low expectations. This is B-Movie fare all the way, and even that might be pushing it. The film is an excuse for ultra gore and lots of T&A. It has some funny moments but I wouldn’t call it a sexy film by any stretch and the horror aspect lacks mood and anything resembling terror. But for fans of campy gore films (and Jenna), this will probably fit the bill.

This film was shot in HD and the Blu-ray transfer can look incredible at times. Close ups reveal lots of great detail and a very clean and sharp image. But the camera work varies considerably throughout. At times longer shots look soft and fuzzy and even noisy at times. Darker sequences lack the inky blacks we see with film and hurt depth. Colors look great with deep hues and no noise but whites can look somewhat blown out at times. Overall this is a good looking disc, it’s just a bit chaotic in quality.

Sony continues to deliver great lossless soundtracks and this is no exception. The mix delivers nice dynamics and a rich atmosphere but lacks the spit and polish of higher budget features. Since most of the film takes place in a strip club with rock and trance music, I was hoping for a bit more dynamic range in the soundstage. Gunfire sounds quite good, but I wasn’t completely convinced with the environmental cues. Dialogue sounds good though and the balance within the mix is solid.

I was pretty impressed with the supplements on this one. Considering its B-movie roots, Sony has included an impressive level of goodies for fans. A feature commentary with the director and key cast members is included along with a couple production features. The disc is also BD-Live enabled and features a funny pop-up trivia track that was at times funnier than the movie. Some extended scenes and trailers are also included.

I went into this one with low expectations and pretty much got what I expected. This is pure B-Movie camp and it’s proud of it. Sony has done a great job with the extras and presentation but I would only recommend this to fans of this sort of film.
