Sampo Corporation is serious about taking video displays to the next level. The Taiwan manufacturing giant has introduced two new high definition LCD television sets whose performance matches their cutting-edge styling.

The 15" -diagonal LME-15S1 and its larger sibling, the 17.4" -diagonal LME-17S1 are slim flatscreen LCD television receivers with inboard 181-channel cable-ready NTSC tuners, PAL display capability, as well as the ability to display both 720p and 1080i HDTV signals when connected to an HDTV receiver or set-top box. The displays also double as computer monitors, and can display video and computer graphics simultaneously.

Their impressive specifications include XGA Resolution of 1024 x 68 pixels for the LME-15S1, and SXGA Resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels for the LME-17S1. Both support multiple scanning rates for compatibility with the widest range of computers and video graphics cards. Contrast ratio is spec'd at 400:1, and Sampo claims a 160 degree viewing angle in both the horizontal and vertical planes. An anti-glare coating on the screen insures full visibility even in bright ambient light.

Video inputs include component video (Y/CB/CR) and RGB computer / HDTV. An RGB output allows for daisy-chaining the video signal to other devices---for example, to a big-screen projector while using one of the Sampo displays as a monitor. Preset image optimization is provided for most types of inputs, but can be overridden by users who wish to manually set the color temperature. A pair of built-in stereo speakers adds to the overall functionality, as does a front-mounted earphone jack. Favorite channel programming, sleep timer, and V-chip control make these units competitive with the best television sets on the market. A full function remote control duplicates controls on the front panel.

These flatscreens are extremely versatile and décor-friendly, fitting into almost any space where video can be enjoyed at close range: desk or countertop, bookshelf, or alcove. A 75mm VESA wall mount is included with each display.
