Rotel RSX-1055
Behind its Euro-inspired sleek exterior – in either black or silver - are five internal power amplifiers delivering 75 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohms, all channels driven, and up to 135 watts per channel under dynamic conditions. Rear panel outputs allow expanding to 6.1 or 7.1-channel systems by adding extra power amps. The heart of the receiver is a big "El" power transformer with select grade filter capacitors to deliver sufficient voltage and current to all channels at the rated output.
The 1055 is designed for musical performance as well as superb film sound reproduction. Its AM/FM tuner is especially sensitive, letting it pull in distant stations cleanly. An HDCD decoder enables extracting the best from discs encoded with this technology.
Component video switching is another feature usually found on only the most expensive separates. Other features add convenience and flexibility, such as an independent Zone 2 output, five assignable digital inputs, discrete on/off codes, rear IR ports, 12 volt trigger, RS-232 interface and full function, learning remote control.
The elegant, ergonomic design of the RSX-1055 is the result of research done by Rotel that indicated a clear need for "a better way," according to Rotel of America v.p. and general manager Mike Bartlett. "A/V receivers have become increasingly complex, bristling with buttons, LEDs and features," he noted. The runaway success of the 1055's big brother, the RSX-1065, proved that the clean approach was better.
"The new model combines classic Rotel virtues of simplicity, audiophile sonics, and legitimate value into a somewhat smaller and more accessible package, while including the key aspects of all the latest digital-surround technologies," Bartlett explained. The RSX-1055 is available now at Rotel dealers nationwide.
