AV Dealer Offers Cash for Clunkers

Cash for clunkers is the deal of the century (or the scam of the century, depending on your point of view). So it was only a matter of time till a smart AV retailer made a trade-in offer.

Talk of the Town of Allendale and Hoboken, New Jersey invites you to turn in your old tube TV, speakers, receiver, turntable, or "record player" (Grandma's Victrola?) for trade-in credit toward the purchase of an LCD, plasma, projector, receiver, processor, Blu-ray player, or speakers (two channel or multichannel). If you buy seating, they'll even haul your old cat-shredded sofa to the curb. How much credit you'll get remains to be seen, but it couldn't hurt to ask, right?

The TotT folks say special incentives are currently available for Classé, McIntosh, Meridian, Anthem, and Elan. Other products you may get for clunker credit include those from Sony, Samsung, Pioneer Elite, McIntosh, Meridian, Anthem, Paradigm, SIM2, B&W, Rotel, Integra, Denon, Cineak, and Bass.

And what will become of your old AV clunkers? Will they be destroyed and sold for scrap, as is the case with car clunkers? No, says TotT's Bob Dodge: "We plan to check trade-ins and product in good working order to be donated rather end up in a landfill."
