Elvis Presley or Elvis Costello?[laughs] Elvis Presley. I saw him when I was just 2 or 3 years old. He was passing through town and their bus stopped for gas and they all got out and got some Coca-Cola. I have to say Presley, but I love Elvis Costello, too. He's amazing. I've played on stage with him two or three times.

Have you had the chance to play with anyone else that was special for you?On our tour last year, my band opened for Willie Nelson. And I've done a couple of things with Billy Gibbons, Robbie Robertson, and Little Feat.

You just played Coach Gaines in Friday Night Lights, and you're about to play Buttermaker in The Bad News Bears and an evil gym teacher in Mr. Woodcock. Do I sense a pattern here?It just kind of worked out that way. I was offered these amazing roles, and they all happened to be coaches.

You got great performances out of Dwight Yoakam and John Ritter in Sling Blade. Any interest in directing again?I haven't for years because I don't really want to be a director. But every now and then I get the itch to do it, and I've got a couple of things up my sleeve. I'd like to direct a movie this coming fall, if I can.

Your mom is a psychic, and she predicted your 1997 Oscar win. What does she see in your future?We don't talk about that too much, but she's very optimistic about a few things. She thinks I'm going to make a couple movies that I'm going to be very proud of, maybe even more proud of than anything I've done so far.

Could you make something that would eclipse Sling Blade?You never know, but that's sort of an iconic movie. I'd be lucky to have another one come out of me that I'm that proud of because it's something really close to my heart. And it's affected a lot of people.

Is there anything you want to add?Yeah. I'd like to make The Unknown Hinson into The Known Hinson. He's a guy from North Carolina who's one of my favorite songwriters. He's a rockabilly vampire.
