BenQ PB6200 DLP Projector HT Labs Measures
• Full-On/Full-Off Contrast Ratio: 690:1; ANSI Contrast Ratio: 283:1
• Measured Resolution with the Leader LT-446: 480/720p/1080i: Out to limits of the 1,024-by-768 chip
• DC Restoration (poor, average, good, excellent): Excellent
• Color Decoder (poor, average, good, excellent): Good
• Measured Color Points: Red Color Point: x=0.616, y=0.369, Green Color Point: x=0.330, y=0.572, Blue Color Point: x=0.145, y=0.071
The Top chart shows the PB6200's gray scale relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 100 IRE is bright white). The gray scale as set by the factory, in the –25 color-temperature mode and the video picture preset mode, measures slightly cool with dark images and drifts cooler with brighter images. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures better, within 100 kelvin of D6500, the accurate color temperature, for most of the range. Brighter images still drift cool.
This chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue color-filter-wheel segments. These are off those specified by SMPTE. Both red and green are undersaturated and fairly yellow.
Using a full-field 100-IRE white (14.48 foot-lamberts) and a full-field 0-IRE black (0.021 ft-L), the contrast ratio was 690:1 while projected on an 87-inch-wide, 1.0-gain Da-Lite Da-Mat screen. Using a 16-box checkerboard pattern (ANSI contrast), the contrast ratio was 283:1. The best contrast ratio was achieved in the economy mode. The other modes produced similar contrast ratios and light outputs when calibrated to D6500.—GM
