DTS Play-Fi Expands ‘Works With Alexa’ Lineup
Owners of these products can now use voice commands to control audio playback from another room using an Amazon Alexa-enabled device such as the Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Show smart speakers. Newly Alexa-certified products include:
• Aerix Duet
• Klipsch Gate
• Klipsch PowerGate
• Klipsch RW-1
• Klipsch "The Capital Three"
• Klipsch "The Three"
• McIntosh MB50 streaming audio player
• McIntosh RS100
• Onkyo P3 Smart Speaker
• Phorus PS10 Smart Speaker
• Pioneer F4 Smart Speaker
• Soundcast VG10
When any of the products on this list are linked to an Amazon account, Alexa will know the speaker by name so you can ask Alexa to play a song in a specific room or a group of linked rooms to adjust volume, skip tracks, mute/pause/stop the music, and more. A complete list of voice commands can be found here.
Once an Alexa voice command is used to initiate audio playback, the DTS Play-Fi app can be used to add other Play-Fi compatible speakers to a streaming session and voice commands can be used to control playback across all connected devices.
The Play-Fi platform enables lossless multiroom wireless audio streaming from personal music libraries, internet radio stations, and a number of popular services, including Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Qobuz, SiriusXM, Spotify, and Tidal.
There are more than 200 Play-Fi-compatible speakers, soundbars, set-top boxes, and AV receivers from many brands, including Aerix, Anthem, Arcam, Definitive Technology, Dish TV, Elite, Integra, Fusion Research, Klipsch, MartinLogan, McIntosh, Onkyo, Paradigm, Phorus, Pioneer, Polk Audio, Rotel, Sonus faber, Soundcast, SVS Sound, Thiel Audio, and Wren Sound.
DTS said Play-Fi-enabled soundbars, AV receivers, and other products will be upgraded with Alexa voice control capability throughout the year.
“As more customers request and use voice control with Alexa, we will continue to expand support for Alexa in the DTS Play-Fi family of products to create a seamless experience for users,” said Dannie Lau, general manager, DTS Play-Fi at DTS parent company Xperi.
