EchoStar has signed an agreement with CableLabs to bring Tru2Way to Dish Network satellite subscribers.

Tru2Way is the second-generation version of the CableCARD encryption standard. Unlike the original CableCARD standard, it is bidirectional and can therefore handle things like video on demand and interactive program guides.

More and more manufacturers are adopting Tru2WAY for TVs, DVRs, and cable boxes. Whether the cable industry will fully embrace Tru2Way is an open question. Many of the original CableCARDs have ended up in set-top boxes, not in digital cable ready TVs.
